Digital Voice Recorder
Each CORPS investigator carries a digital voice record with them on an investigation. A digital voice recorder is exactly like the old fashion tape records except that they record audio in digital format to an internal memory card.
Digital Voice Recorders are essential to capture an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). While the old fashioned tape record will work just as well, the digital voice recorders can be easily attached to a computer for later analysis.
There are numerous brands of digital voice recorders. CORPS has several different brands with various amounts of memory. If you are planning on purchasing a digital voice recorder, make sure that it's computer connection is compatible with your computer. We've seen several recorders that are now using bluetooth connections to transfer data to a computer. Only specially equipped computers have a bluetooth interface card so to be safe look for a USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection. Digital Voice Recorders can be purchased from most major retail chains and range in price between $30 and $200. Cheap Digital Voice recorders are perfectly fine for catching EVPs except that the microphone quality of more expensive models may be more sensative to capturing EVPs.
